The Place Where One Comes To Know Christ
I am amazed to see the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is a power that expands the light within us and brings us pure, lasting joy.
Two of our investigators are for the first time in their lives successfully quitting the use of cigarettes.
We fasted with Babk and his family. He has not smoked since then. He is having some amazing experiences. He has been sharing experiences that he is having, which I don’t have the right to share.
He is receiving revelation like I have never seen before. His family and his home have a new, bright, light feeling about them. It is fascinating to see the affect of the Gospel take root in a family.
The gospel is not a vague thing. It has tangible effects and results. It changes people
We have a light within us. That light shines and is most easily noticed through our eyes. That light increases when we act according to that light. People sometimes call this light our “conscience”, the scriptures, and God’s prophets call this the Light of Christ, “For behold, the aSpirit of Christ is given to every bman, that he may cknow good from evil; wherefore, I show unto you the way to judge; for every thing which inviteth to do good, and to persuade to believe in Christ, is sent forth by the power and gift of Christ; wherefore ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of God.” (Moroni 7:16)
The purpose of this life, as outlined in the Book of Mormon “is that [we] might have joy”(2 Nephi 2:25). We see and more importantly feel/experience love when God forgives us of our sins, teaches us truth through the spirit and when our faith increases due to seeing his hand work miracles in our lives, big or small. I have found that all of these experiences can be had through praying to God and seeking answers to our questions by reading the words of his chosen servants (prophets/apostles),in other words the scriptures.
I learned recently that the word “Mormon” means “the place where one comes to know Christ”. The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ is not about Mormon, or Joseph Smith, it is about Christ. It teaches us to do as Christ did and to increase our faith in him so that we can do what is necessary to perform miracles and to live with our families forever, in peace. It teaches us how to be forgiven of our wrongs, how to work miracles and how to receive answers to our deepest, most pertaining questions.
There is a tangible change in Babk and his family. This is a gospel of light. Thus it has power to replace darkness with the light. We can be healed physically and spiritually because Christ accomplished the Atonement.
I know that we can find that joy that naturally accompanies light. The joy that is found by increasing the light of Christ is irreplaceable and indescribable.
I love you and pray that you will let that light shine.
14 Ye are the alight of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
15 Neither do men light a acandle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
16 Let your alight so shine before men, that they may see your good bworks, and cglorify your Father which is in heaven.
( Matt 5 :14-16)
