There Is No Fear In Love

1 John 4:16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.

18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

What is the definition of love? it is a Love of God and of all man. We cannot love all men until we love God. What must we do to Love God?
John 15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.

How do we learn his commandments?
2 Nephi 32:3 Angels speak by the power of the Holy Ghost; wherefore, they speak the words of Christ. Wherefore, I said unto you, feast upon the wordsof Christ; for behold, the words of Christ will tell you all things what ye should do.

We must read the words of Christ and learn his example.

This week I focused on the Christ-like attribute of Charity. It is a state of being, not the result of a few good deeds. It is a state of power because when we have love, we can preform miracles, which we otherwise could not preform. Pure love means that we have pure desires to help those around us. It is in the moment that our love becomes pure that we are endowed with a greater portion of faith, hope and energy. I learned that Love is the most powerful force in the universe and that it is the only way that we can truly help others overcome all of life’s difficulties. I have learned that without the Pure Love of Christ our words have little lasting effect on the hearts of men. I have also learned that Charity is the most most amazing state of being(i don’t know if I could explain it in any other way). In other words when we are filled with God’s love we are invigorated, our burdens become lighter, we forget ourselves,  our joy is full and we are ready to help others. The only sadness that enters our lives is sin. Many people say that “I would take a bullet for you” and that is love. But isn’t it harder to live for someone. Isn’t harder to live each day, striving to be your best. It is living worthy to preform God’s miracles that shows our love. Living for miracles is a great sign of love than dying to preform one. Christ couldn’t have preformed the miracle of dying had he not lived worthy of that miracle his entire life

If we have charity, obedience is no longer an irritant but our deepest desire. We desire to be the Lord’s instrument, to show the Lord our Love for him through serving others.

This week a man stopped coming to church because love had ceased to dwell in his heart, he was judging others and Satan took hold. Now he is holding himself above others. The only thing I could do was show my love for him. I pray that that love will have a lasting effect. I knew that none of my words would change him. Only the Love of God.

This is my invitation to all. Forget yourselves. Continue to go to work, continue to eat your food, drink your water, sleep, etc. But strive to  cheer up those around you. Seek to serve those around you in any way possible. This is the only way that we can find lasting joy here, in this life. This is what Christ did and he truly is our greatest example.

With a smile and love,
Elder Cook
